The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1958 at D.R.M. Science College, Davanagere-577 004. Shri. N. B. Chandrashekar was the pioneer of the department. The department is known for its commitment to excellence in teaching, research and outreach activities. The main aim of the department is to provide comprehensive education in the field of Zoology. The department offers undergraduate program in Zoology that covers a wide range of topics, like Animal Systematics, Animal Diversity, Animal physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Evolution, Economic Zoology, Molecular Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Endocrinology, Immunology, Histology, Parasitology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Biology and Animal Behaviour. In addition, department is also conducting the various value-added courses.
The department is equipped with three good laboratories, prestigious museum, departmental library and one research laboratory. The faculty members are well qualified and are actively involved in research and often collaborate on interdisciplinary work.
In addition, the department also organizes National and International conferences, workshops, seminars, special lectures and educational tours for the benefit of the students and teachers.

- The “World No Tobacco Day 2024” was celebrated on 31st May 2024.
